Australia Post

The first mail deliveries in Australia were conducted by Sydney postmaster Isaac Nichols, an ex-convict, in 1809. The current Australia Post was established as a crown corporation in 1901 – it was known at that time as the Postmaster-General's Department. Australia Post’s core business is the provision of mail and parcel delivery services to all Australians. As a government-owned entity, Australia Post’s community service obligations are set out in legislation that requires key service elements. These include a uniform price for postage of standard letters, reasonable access for all Australians wherever they reside and performance standards that meet the social, industrial and commercial needs of the community.
